A short distance from Pitlurg Castle, this 16th and 17th century house built by the Gordons on a shelf above the Davidston Burn is thought to take its name from David de Strathbogie, Earl of Atholl in the time of Robert Bruce. Under the NE bartizan is a grinning mask and the date 1678 with the inscription I.G. (John Gordon?) and T.A. ('TA' in inscription with grotesque is Abercrombie wife of Gordon laird.) Builded This House. The house is an L-plan of a long and low profile standing at the SE corner of a court retaining an original west facing entrance flanked by shot-holes. The north range is modern. The house has three stories but the wing, probably the oldest part, and the adjacent part of the main block also have an attic. There are conical roofed bartizans on the NW and SW corners. The big windows facing south at all three levels are not old. In the 1970s Davidston was Refurbished 1973-4, Jack Meldrum; also 1981-2 Keith Shellenberg, and upper floor entrance then being found.
