The Cullen Bay Hotel stands on the former site of Farskane House, a residence of the lairds of Gordon dating from 1677. In 1924 Farskane House was converted to the Cullen Bay Hotel by Mrs Simpson. Cullen at that time was stongly influenced by the Temperance movement whereas Farskane House was located just outside the Parish Boundary.
