The Gordons of Letterfourie were given a baronetcy in 1625 and descended from a younger son of the 2nd Earl of Huntly. The large mansion with ornamental gardens dates mostly from 1776 although older work may survive within it. It lies on the slopes of Aultmore near the Buckie Burn. The estate once bordered that of Duff house and eclipsed Gordon castle until in later years combining to cover most of Banffshire know comenly as Moray.
